Tvorba dvojice Julia Gryboś a Barbora Zentková sa dlhodobo rozvíja v intenciách udržateľnosti, ukotvenosti v skúmaní rôznych materiálnych rovín, recyklácie, up-cyklácie, návratu k tradičným textilným technikám a rukodielnosti. Patria k mladšej generácii umelkýň a umelcov, ktorí sa obracajú k tradičným remeselným, pôvodne neumeleckým technológiám a materiálom. Pracujú s textíliami získanými z druhej ruky, ktorých pôvodná funkcia už bola naplnená. Narábajú s farbenými pigmentami, so širokými pásmi gázy, s drapériami, na ktorých možno rozoznať rôzne otlačky. Tie sú záznamom časovosti, zachytávajú niečo, čo tam bolo, ale už nie je. Textílie sú aplikované priamo na stenu galérie, vytvárajúc akúsi mäkkú miestošpecifickú tapetu, do ktorej je výstavný priestor zavinutý. Autorky vťahujú jeho architektonické prvky do komplexnosti svojej inštalácie. V sústredenej práci nachádzajú ochranu, únik pred svetom presýteným vnemami, rýchlosťou, efektivitou.
Mnohé je v ich tvorbe len nepatrne naznačené, trochu poodhalené. Pracujú s dualitou absencie a prítomného okamihu, s rôznymi mierkami času pre telo a planétu. Ľudský činiteľ pôsobiaci na planétu je zastúpený nástennými reliéfmi vytvorenými vrstvením bavlny – pripomínajúc sedimenty hornín, planéty či rezy pôdy. Motív vrstvenia alebo sedimentov sa opakuje aj v objektoch pozostávajúcich z kovových konštrukcií oblých organických tvarov a vosku, kde vosk postupným tuhnutím vytvára jednotlivé vrstvy podobné stuhnutej láve, ktoré sú ozvenou vrstiev textílií v nástenných reliéfoch.
The work of the duo Julia Gryboś and Barbora Zentková has long been developed within the framework of sustainability, grounded in the exploration of various material dimensions, recycling, upcycling, a return to traditional textile techniques, and craftsmanship. They belong to a younger generation of artists who turn to traditional craft-based, originally non-artistic technologies and materials. They work with second-hand textiles whose original function has already been fulfilled. They use dyed pigments, wide strips of gauze, and draperies on which various imprints can be discerned. These imprints serve as a record of temporality, capturing something that was once there but is no longer present. The textiles are applied directly to the gallery walls, creating a sort of soft, site-specific wallpaper that envelops the exhibition space. The artists incorporate the architectural elements of the space into the complexity of their installation. In their focused work, they find protection and an escape from a world oversaturated with stimuli, speed, and efficiency.
Much of their work is only subtly hinted at, partially revealed. They work with the duality of absence and the present moment, as well as with different scales of time for the body and the planet. The human impact on the planet is represented by wall reliefs created by layering cotton—reminiscent of rock sediments, planets, or soil cross-sections. The motif of layering or sedimentation is also repeated in objects composed of metal structures with rounded organic shapes and wax, where the gradual solidification of wax forms individual layers resembling hardened lava, echoing the layers of textiles in the wall reliefs.
